As this was my first musical composition, it is understandably lacking in a lot of aspects. Nevertheless this piece is a rearrangement of multiple Red Hot Chili Pepper songs. I then implemented these pieces in various ways and switched the roles for the bass and lead guitar allowing for a different sound altogether. The guitar solo was a reimagining of the guitar solo in “Can’t Stop” and the Chorus and Verse are both reimagining of both “Go Robot” and “Snow”. I then manually shifted the key of all the pieces to an E.
Process-wise, I physically wrote down the guitar tabs and bass tabs for each section of the song and performed the entire piece as a performance to be recorded digitally. The writing process was something entirely new to me and this process showed me the benefits of writing music down as I soon realized that writing increased my comprehension of my own piece. However, performing the piece as a small band involved many takes and produced unsatisfactory results. The process proved to be infuriating as small mistakes ruined the process of the recording, adding unto the lack of time available, it became harder the longer we took. Technologically, I used Protools to record the performance and used a fade out effect at the end.
Looking back into the process, the bad time management and bad planning was reflected in to the final product. Not only was the idea itself disappointing, but the execution is also questionable as the sound quality and mistakes also reflect the lack of practice my friends and I had. Looking forward, I would like to explore other software and put more time into the piece, in the hopes of creating a satisfactory composition.
