Multiplayer:

I decided my last creation should be an entirely original composition complete with a wide array of instruments. Although I originally planned to record live instruments, I assumed that it would not result in the grand tone I envisioned. Hence, I opted for music technology instead, as Reason provides instrument sounds that I could not get a hold of in reality. I decided on having a larger amount of tracks as I was motivated to replicate musical features from the 80s, such as the orchestral instruments in “Go West” by Village People and the chords and dynamics from Queen’s singles (staccatos in “Don’t Stop Me Now” and mood of “Radio Ga Ga”).

I began by recording the chords of the piece with the default piano sound in Reason to set a guideline for the development of the piece. I re-recorded that track by changing the sound into a grand piano and added more variations to the chord changes. Then, I added a trumpet which would be the solo instrument. I added another for bass and layered more aerophone sounds before asking my classmate to aid in figuring out which drum loops supplied in Reason were appropriate for the piece. I gave the piece an intro and an outro with a synth sound similar to retro video games. Finally, I composed a guitar solo which I recorded through the keyboard as well before I recorded the entire track into ProTools.

I am rather satisfied with the composition of the piece itself, though I believe it would have been ideal to record it live rather than through music technology. I am particularly proud of the concept that I personally think I delivered well. Overall, the only issue for me is the lack of dynamics which could have been achieved through real recordings.
