Tandu Pengantin was originally composed for a school play. The instruments include a chinese drum, an electric drum-kit, a piano, two keyboards (as a pipa and a dizi), an electric bass, two violins, and a guzheng that accompany a small choir. A third keyboard (string guitar) was added later on. The lyrics were provided as they were part of the
script.
Due to poor sound quality, I had to record it again using Pro Tools after the play was over. First, I recorded the piano and the two keyboards, followed by the bass by itself, the chinese drum, and another session with the guzheng . The choir was then recorded in a separate session on their own. As there were only five members in the choir, the recording had over-dubbed twice so that the sound can be richer. Finally, the violins and the electric drum were recorded in separate sessions.
This song was meant to only last 1 minute and 40 seconds. However, as the IB requires a composition of at least 3 minutes long, I had to extend the composition by cutting and pasting some parts of the music and adding extra sections to it. It was a difficult process as the cuts have to be precise and sections must be able to flow smoothly. I also had to add a string guitar synthesizer (hence the third keyboard) to play an intro and the main melodies of the choir where new sections are added.

This was a great experience for me to learn how to mix a recording of a larger group as well as extending a short recording by merely cutting and pasting available Sections. I have also learned that a raw recording without heavy edits will have a much better result than one that has been edited.
