I started this piece with the goal of composing an original instrumental song that can make the audience feel something new. One of my goals was to create a piece which combined contemporary music and orchestral instruments such as the violin and cello. One of my influences is Hans Zimmer (famous film composer) who created legendary soundtracks for so many great blockbusters and whose Music adds so much emotional depth to films. This piece is similar in that I can imagine it complimenting a short clip or film.

I started by working out the chord progression on piano. The idea for combining contemporary music with orchestra instruments came late at night when I started playing out of boredom. Instruments used are Piano, Cello, Violin, Violas and Bass. It started with a C and then goes to G then Am then F then C then G. I aimed to build up the dynamics until the chorus which starts with an Am. This instrumental piece was composed using the software “Cakewalk Bandlab”.

I’ve learned how to create a solid music structure and also combine instruments to create a rich texture. I believe I have improved from my last composition in that this piece is more musically coherent with a clearer more defined structure. This piece is my first piece incorporating orchestral instrumentation and I am proud of the final result which took almost two weeks of focused work to arrange and record.
